Hi, I’m Melanie, the founder of Mels Jewels I’d like to share the backstory of how my brand came to be.

With my background in Fine Arts and a degree in Fashion Design from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, I pursued a successful career as a fashion designer in New York City. After working at numerous companies I branched out to open my own label of dresses and updated separates. I sold my designs to Barney’s, Henri Bendel, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdale’s, and The Limited to name a few. My designs were even showcased in Glamour and Seventeen Magazine. Women’s Wear Daily touted my collection as part of a new wave of young and up-and-coming designers to watch out for.

After twenty years in the New York City Garment Center scene, I began to focus my attention on jewelry. I designed my collection of high-end fashion jewelry consisting of semi-precious stones and freshwater pearls coupled with gold or silver. I sold my jewelry to exclusive high-end boutiques and catalogs. My designs were featured in Elle Magazine!

In 2007 I found the world of Interior Design. It proved to be a natural fit with my fashion design background. I shifted from jewelry design to interior design until early 2020. I was fortunate enough to take some time off when the pandemic hit and everything closed for months. During this break, I was able to reevaluate my lifestyle choices. After a long time away from my jewelry business, I began to feel the familiar spark of inspiration.

I began making semi-precious bracelets with dangling gold or silver charms.  I became captivated by these “little works of art.”  With the love and support of my family and friends who love my jewelry, I have created a website to showcase my jewelry and make it available to all.
